How to choose: Search MCP Server
Hyperresearch Answers is our editorial choice for a search MCP server: one ask call returns a short answer with quotes checked against their pages, so your agent’s context stays small.
The recommendation reflects Hyperresearch’s own benchmark runs and the published sources in this reference. Hyperresearch is our product. This is not a hands-on test of every tool.

How to choose a search MCP server in five steps
- Name the job. Decide whether you need a cited answer, a list of sources, the full text of one page, or a research summary.
- Check the tool list. Open the server's documentation and confirm the tool names and what each returns.
- Pick the auth method. Prefer OAuth or a header-based key. Avoid keys in URLs or shared config files.
- Measure the result size. Run three typical questions and note how much text each call adds to the context.
- Check the citations. Confirm that answers link to the page they came from and that the quoted text appears there.
Hyperresearch Answers is our editorial pick for cited answers. Exa MCP and Brave Search MCP are the runner-ups when you want the raw results yourself.
Test it yourself: a one-day pilot
Pick five questions from your real work. Include one that needs a current figure, one that needs a company detail, one that needs a regulation or price, one that is a comparison, and one that has no clear answer on the web. Run each question through two servers in the same client.
Score each answer on three points: whether the claim is correct, whether the source link opens and supports the claim, and how many calls and tokens it took. Keep a short log. The server that gets the most claims right with the fewest calls is the better fit for your work.
Repeat the pilot a week later, since results and rate limits change. Only then commit to a paid plan.
Write down the expected outcome before you start, such as a claim you already know to be true. That gives you a fixed check, so you are not judging each server by how confident its answer sounds.
